Music performed by Clara
Clara Chi is a 17 year old violinist of The Juilliard School who has performed extensively in New England and the Mid-Atlantic States.
Although she heard the violin through folk music and classical music regularly while growing up in Eastern Europe and the United States, Clara didn't begin learning the violin until the age of 8 after she attended a live performance of Julie Sharp, a graduate of Juilliard and the Cleveland Institute of Music (CIM). Awed by the sublime sound of Julie's deft and beautiful artistry, Clara then insisted upon learning the violin and has thoroughly enjoyed practicing and performing ever since.
As a significant mentor to little Clara, Julie introduced her to three of her own teachers: Millette Alexander, Dr. Stephan Teiszen, and Dr. Ann Setzer. Since then, Clara has studied piano with Ms. Alexander, Baroque violin with Lisa Rautenberg of the Yale Collegeium, Ivan Galamian's Russian and Franco-Belgian violin techniques with Dr. Tieszen of Yale School of Music and Dr. Setzer of Juilliard.
As a middle school student, Clara began studying with Dr. Setzer at the rigorous and elite Meadowmount School of Music founded by Ivan Galamian in the Adirondack Mountains. She has since continued studying and performing at Meadowmount during the summers after she began studying in Dr. Setzer's violin studio at Juililard Pre-college during high school.
Clara was honored to perform as a 1st violinist in the New York Philharmonic alongside 1st violinist Kerry McDermott in Lincoln Center's newly refurbished David Geffen Hall, and she has attained 1st place in several international competitions.
